Welcome to the School of Public Health Online Skills Test!
This skills test will test to see if you have the basic system requirements,
plug-ins, and skills to take an online course at the School of Public
Health, University of Minnesota . Don't worry, you can go through the
test as many times as you like, and we will offer a good deal of help
along the way, through both text help links and flash demonstrations.
The skills test is divided up into these sections:
Section 1: Test of System Requirements
Part 1.1: Computer Guidelines
Part 1.2: Browser Test (incl. javascript)
Part 1.3: Plug-in Tests
Part 1.3a: Plug-in Test: Adobe Acrobat
Part 1.3b: Plug-in Test: Flash
This section will give you general computer guidelines, including what hardware and software you'll need to take an online course. We will also detect your browser type and settings to ensure that your browser supports the technology used in the course. Then we will test to see if you have the necessary components and plug-ins to take the course, and direct you to where you can get them.
Section 2: Test of Internet Skills
Part 2.1: Scrolling
Part 2.2a: Downloading Files and Copying and Pasting Text
Part 2.2b: Downloading Excel Files and Copying and Pasting Data
Part 2.3: Moving Back and Forward
Part 2.4: Accessing and Navigating Within PDF Files
Before taking an online course, it is important to be familiar with the internet and related technologies. This section of the skills test will make sure that you can do basic online tasks. The skills involved include scrolling, using the back and forward buttons, copying and pasting, working with urls, downloading files from the web, filling out online forms, and accessing PDF files. We'll make it as fun as possible.

Part 3.1: Login Test
Part 3.2: WebCT Test
All of the online courses at the School of Public Health use the
courseware product WebCT. When you get to Section 3, you will take
the corresponding test.
